U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today accredited Armuche Elementary School (APS) as one of 297 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022. Accreditation is based on the school’s overall academic performance or progress toward closing performance gaps between student subgroups. Secretary Cardona made the announcement during a back-to-school bus tour of the road to success.

We applaud all the winners of the Ribbon School Awards.” “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know our future will be as strong as the education we provide to every child. Blue Ribbon School have worked harder than ever to keep their students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional and spiritual needs. It shows that we can bring about meaningful and positive change.”

In its 39th cohort, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program awarded nearly 10,000 awards to over 9,000 schools. The National Blue Ribbon School Award recognizes and justifies our students, educators, families and communities in striving for and achieving exemplary results.
The National Blue Ribbon School serves as a model of effective school practice for state and district educators and other schools nationwide. The National Blue Ribbon School flag, which adorns the school entrance and flagpole, is widely recognized as an exemplary teaching and learning symbol.
The education department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories based on scores and graduation rates for all student score subgroups.
- exemplary excellent school – These are among the best performing schools in the state as measured by state ratings or nationally standardized tests.
- Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School – These are the best performers in the state at closing the performance gap between the school’s student group and all students.
“Being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2022 is an honor that recognizes the extraordinary efforts of our teachers, staff and students to build a tribal foundation for lifelong learners,” said APS Principal Carrie Graves. says. “This nomination was made last February when we were still at Glenwood Elementary School. We repeat the fact that our school is the people who make it special: teachers, staff and students.”
Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. The Department of Education is soliciting nominations for the National Blue Ribbon School Award from top educational officials from all states, the District of Columbia, US Territories, Department of Defense Educational Activities and the Indian Department of Education. Private schools are nominated by the American Council on Private Education.
