Milton Keynes Dons 2-1 Port Vale

featured image

Bradley Johnson scored twice as MK Dons defeated Port Vale at Stadium MK to clinch their first league title of the season.

It was a timely result for last season’s playoff semi-finalists, as they had lost all their last three games scoreless.

After 34 minutes of repetitive play, Johnson finally broke MK Dons’ league duck by finding the bottom corner from around 20 yards and opened the club’s account.

Henry Lawrence had to clear the line from Ellis Harrison early in the second half before Vale goalkeeper Jack Stevens successfully beat Matt Dennis’ long-range curler.

The Dons’ lead doubled in the 85th minute when Johnson stepped up to drill a free kick into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Valiant pulled the goal back three minutes into injury time when Harrison headed in for a Tom Conlon free-kick, but it was too little and too late.
