Emerald Coast Science Center with SMALLLab’s next sciPad is at 31 Memorial Pkwy SW in Fort Walton Beach on August 17th from 1-3pm. The event is an embodied learning environment where all learners stand up, move and collaborate. You can work together to solve puzzles, compete in trivia games, learn about the world, play memory and matching games, and much more. Think of it like playing on an interactive, room-sized iPad for ages 2 to 102.

Destin, Okaloosa Libraries Closed for Staff Training

The Destin Library will be closed all day on Friday, August 19th for annual staff training. Library staff cannot assist patrons by phone or email. All six Okaloosa County Public Libraries Joint Libraries are participating in the training and will be closed for the day. Patrons can update items or put items on hold from his website at readokaloosa.org. Normal library hours will resume on Saturday, August 20th. Ruthie’s Notions in Baker hosts Sewing Classes for Christmas Is August. Barbara Jones in the Make It and Take It Poinsettia class for Luminaire sewing machine users. GriefShare Grief Recovery Seminars and Support Groups
The GriefShare Recovery Seminar and Support Group will begin at 1:00 PM on September 1st at the Destin United Methodist Church at 200 Beach Drive. After that, the meeting continues every Thursday at 1:00 PM. Babysitting services are available on request.
GriefShare features nationally recognized experts in grief recovery. Seminar sessions include “Is this normal?” “The Challenge of Grief”; “Grief and Your Relationship”; “Why?”; and “Guilt and Anger”.

Taylor Dane concert rescheduled

The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) has announced that Taylor Dayne’s concert performance scheduled for Thursday, May 26th has been postponed due to inclement weather. Due to impending inclement weather and for safety and logistical reasons (setup/concert preparation). His concert has been postponed until Thursday, October 13th. Tickets will automatically transfer to this new date.

Adopt a Street
The City of Destin’s Adopt-A-Street program enables local families, businesses, and community groups to perform valuable community services by adopting sections of roads to keep them clear of trash and debris. Groups that participate in the program will have their names posted on the city’s website and signs installed on the streets adopted.
